During Veko, you can try sport climbing at the beautiful crag at Staup! Here, you’ll get to experience the feeling of achievement and pure joy of climbing in steep surroundings – even if you’ve never climbed before.
Staup is a great spot for families and climbers seeking easy to moderately challenging routes. The area below the cliffs invites you to relax and enjoy the good atmosphere. With proper gear and skilled instructors from Wild Voss, you’ll get an introduction to the steep outdoor life that climbing offers.
This tour gives you a taste of real climbing – what we call “bratt friluftsliv”. At Staup, there are bolted climbing routes suitable for both beginners and more experienced climbers. What makes this crag unique is the stunning natural surroundings and the short distance from Voss.
Participants will get the chance to climb at a level adapted to their own abilities. There is no performance pressure here – you decide how high and how much you want to climb. If you’re ready for a challenge, you can try the tallest route on the cliff – around 30 meters high.
For this trip, you will need:
• Good hiking shoes – running shoes are fine in the summer
• Wind- and waterproof clothing if needed
• A warm sweater or jacket
• Sunglasses and sunscreen
• A water bottle and lunch or snacks
How to get to Staup:
You’ll find Staup by driving the E16 out of Voss toward Gudvangen for about 7 km. At the exit to Smalahovetunet, turn left (opposite side of the road) and head up the steep gravel road. Parking is at the top, on the left side before the bridge.
⚠️ Please note: Show consideration for grazing animals along the gravel road. Always close gates behind you.
You can also take the bus to and from Staup.
The bus ride takes about 10 minutes. From Voss Station, take bus route 950 Gudvangen or 810 Vinje/Vik.
Departure times: 10:10 and 12:25
Get off at Smalahovetunet (Løno sør)
Return buses from Løno sør leave at 12:41, 15:10 or 18:30.
