Kayaking - Race Organizer H2H

Location: Voss, Norway
Duration: Project-based position (before and during Ekstremsportveko)
 

The Race Organizer for the Head-to-Head Kayak race is responsible for planning and delivering a safe, fair, and exciting competition during Ekstremsportveko. The role requires a hands-on and structured individual with strong understanding of kayak racing and event execution, capable of managing race flow, athletes, and on-site operations.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

Race Planning and Setup

- Plan and prepare the race format, schedule, and course layout for the head-to-head kayak competition.

- Coordinate course setup, start/finish areas, and required infrastructure in close collaboration with the Head of Kayaking and the Head of Safety – Kayaking.

- Ensure the race format and execution comply with agreed rules and competition guidelines.

Race Execution and Flow

- Manage race operations during competition days, including heats, progression, and finals.

- Ensure smooth race flow and clear communication with athletes, officials, and volunteers.

- Make operational decisions on site to maintain fairness, safety, and schedule, in coordination with the Head of Kayaking and the safety team.

Collaboration with Athletes and Volunteers

- Communicate clearly with athletes regarding rules, start procedures, and race progression.

- Recruit, brief, and coordinate volunteers involved in course management, timing, and athlete handling.

Safety and Coordination

- Work closely with the Head of Safety – Kayaking to ensure the race is conducted in a safe and controlled manner.

- Participate in risk assessments and help implement necessary safety measures.

- Monitor river and weather conditions together with the safety and kayaking leads, and adjust race execution if required.

Results and Reporting

- Ensure accurate recording and reporting of race results.

- Coordinate with the Head of Kayaking and the Head of Results and Prize Ceremony to ensure correct progression and award ceremonies.

- Practical experience with kayak racing or similar paddle sports.

- Good understanding of race formats, head-to-head competition, and event flow.

- A bility to stay calm and make clear decisions in a live competition environment.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills.

- Structured, hands-on, and solution-oriented approach.

Working Hours and Duration

The role requires flexibility and on-site presence in Voss before and during the race days. Availability during competition hours is essential.
