Position Title: Head of Safety – Paragliding
Reports to: Head of Paragliding / Air Sports Manager
Department: Sports Department
Location: Voss, Norway
Duration: Project-based position (before, during, and after Ekstremsportveko)
The Head of Safety – Paragliding is a key role in ensuring that all paragliding activities during Ekstremsportveko are carried out in accordance with the highest safety standards. This position requires an experienced, responsible, and detail-oriented individual with deep knowledge of paragliding safety and event risk management.
Main Responsibilities
Safety planning and procedures:

Develop and implement safety plans and guidelines for all paragliding activities.

Ensure compliance with national and international paragliding safety standards.
On-site safety management:

Supervise safety operations during training, events, and competitions.

Monitor weather conditions and other risk factors, and make decisions accordingly.

Act as the primary point of contact for safety-related issues within the discipline.
Risk assessment and incident management:

Conduct risk assessments prior to the festival and update them as needed.

Implement measures to mitigate identified risks.

Lead and document incident response in case of accidents or near misses.
Collaboration with teams:

Work closely with the Head of Paragliding to ensure safety is fully integrated into planning and execution.

Coordinate with the festival’s central safety team and medical staff.

Provide safety briefings and training for athletes and volunteers.
Experience for participants and audience:

Contribute to creating a safe and positive experience for athletes, staff, and spectators.

Ensure transparency and professionalism in all safety-related communication.
Qualifications and Expectations

Paragliding safety expertise: Solid knowledge of paragliding safety standards, equipment, and procedures.

Experience: Background in safety management for paragliding or similar air sports, preferably within competitions or events.

Leadership and communication: Ability to instruct, brief, and support athletes, staff, and volunteers.

Decision-making under pressure: Capable of handling demanding situations calmly and effectively.

Structured and proactive: Strong planning skills and attention to detail, with flexibility to adapt to changing conditions.
Workload and Duration
The position requires flexibility, with peak activity before, during, and after the festival. On-site presence in Voss is necessary to ensure the safe execution of all paragliding activities.
