Head of Safety - Paragliding


Reports to: Air Sport Coordinator
Location: Voss, Norway & Online
Duration: Project-based position (before and during Ekstremsportveko)

The head of safety for Paragliding plays a crucial role in ensuring that all flights, competitions, and related activities are carried out in a safe, structured, and professional manner. This position requires solid technical knowledge, strong situational awareness, and the ability to make quick and sound decisions in a dynamic environment.


Key Responsibilities

Safety Procedures & Risk Management

- Ensure that all safety procedures and guidelines are followed during paragliding activities and competitions.

- Conduct risk assessments for launch and landing areas, as well as for airspace, and implement measures to reduce potential risks.

- Monitor weather conditions and contribute to safe decision-making regarding takeoff, flight, and possible cancellations.


Equipment & Emergency Preparedness

- Ensure that all necessary safety equipment, radio communication systems, and rescue resources are in place and meet required standards.

- Organize emergency readiness in collaboration with volunteers, rescue personnel, and the festival safety team.

- Verify that all pilots have valid licenses and approved equipment in accordance with current regulations.


Coordination & Collaboration

- Work closely with volunteers, pilots, judges, and other involved personnel to ensure safe execution of all activities.

- Coordinate with the central safety team to secure the safety of both participants and spectators.

- Maintain clear and efficient communication between launch sites, airspace, and landing zones throughout all paragliding activities.
 

Monitoring & Incident Response

- Be present during flying activities to monitor safety and identify potential challenges.

- Remain available for quick response in case of accidents or incidents, and assist in coordinating rescue efforts when needed.


Training & Briefings

- Conduct safety briefings for pilots and volunteers before each competition or activity.

- Ensure that all involved are familiar with safety procedures, communication routines, and emergency protocols.


Qualifications

Experience: Previous experience in safety management within paragliding or other airsports.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of paragliding safety standards, airspace regulations, and risk assessment.

Coordination: Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multiple teams and communicate clearly.

Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing weather and unexpected situations calmly and effectively.

Organization: Structured, detail-oriented, and proactive in planning and execution of safety operations.


Working Hours & Duration

This position requires flexibility and high availability before and during Ekstremsportveko. Presence in Voss during Ekstremsportveko is essential to ensure the safe and effective execution of all activities.
