For one week every June, Ekstremsportveko takes over Voss and turns the town into the world’s metropole for extreme sports.
Rivers roar, the skies fill with movement, and the mountains become arenas for sport, experience, and community. Athletes, volunteers, and visitors from around the world gather for a week that cannot be replicated and only happens here.
Ekstremsportveko is the world’s largest extreme sports festival, held in Voss, Western Norway, since 1998.
Built by the community
The first edition of Ekstremsportveko was held in 1998, born out of a the four local clubs, Skydive Voss, Voss Hang- & Paragliding Klubb, Voss Elveklubb and Voss Active and a shared belief that the landscape around Voss deserved to be used, challenged, and celebrated. What started as a small, idealistic gathering has since grown into a global meeting point, a place where world records have been set, major international championships have been staged, and lifelong connections have begun.
Where it often begins
For many, Ekstremsportveko is the very first encounter with extreme sports. One jump, one ride, one moment is often enough to spark something bigger. Over the years, the festival has played a key role in recruiting new athletes into the sports, strengthening local clubs, and even inspiring people to move to Voss to live closer to the activities and values they first experienced during that week.
From morning until late night
Throughout the festival, the entire region is activated. Kayakers and rafters charge through powerful rivers. BASE jumpers, paragliders, speed riders, and skydivers fill the airspace above Voss. Riders on bikes and boards take over streets, slopes, and purpose-built arenas, while climbers and freeriders push their limits just meters from cheering crowds. The proximity between athletes and audience is unique, and the energy is impossible to fake.
But Ekstremsportveko is not just about what happens during the day. When the sun drops behind the mountains, the festival shifts shape. Music, art, and late nights take over, turning Voss into a living, breathing cultural hub. Concerts stretch across genres and generations, and strangers quickly become friends. You might come for a competition, but you stay for the atmosphere.
Built by people
What truly sets Ekstremsportveko apart is the people. For one intense week, a temporary community is created, built on trust, respect, and curiosity. Professionals and first-timers share the same spaces. Volunteers are as essential as athletes. Everyone contributes to something bigger than themselves, knowing that this moment is limited and that’s exactly what makes it special.
A non-profit foundation
Ekstremsportveko is owned and organized by the non-profit foundation Stiftinga Ekstreme Voss, founded by local clubs with deep roots in the area. A small year-round team works behind the scenes, supported by hundreds of volunteers who return summer after summer to recreate something that cannot be copied or scaled elsewhere.
