Deep Water Solo
Competition Concept
Deep Water Solo is a fast-paced climbing competition where athletes climb without ropes, with only water below as protection.
The format is simple: climb faster than your opponent and hit the button at the top first.
There are no ropes and no second chances. If you fall, you land in the water.
How It Works
- Two athletes compete head to head on identical routes.
- At the start signal, both climbers begin from the defined starting holds and race up the wall as quickly as possible.
- The first athlete to reach the top hits the button. A light signals the winner, while the opponent’s light turns off.
- The competition follows a knockout format, where the winner advances to the next round.
- After qualification, the six fastest women and six fastest men move on to the finals.
Route Design
- The routes are designed for speed and flow. They are challenging but accessible to a wide range of climbers.
- You do not need extreme finger strength. Good timing, balance and race tactics are often what make the difference.
Finals
- The six best women and six best men compete in a series of head-to-head duels.
- Each round brings quick decisions, full commitment and fast climbing all the way to the top.
- Expect tight races, big moves and, for some, a spectacular finish in the water.
